Q: WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

A: I am at Hereditary Tattoo on 7 S. Lincoln St. in Wilmington, DE and have been there as of January 2021. This info is in my bio for reference purposes.

Please note that if you book with me, I send detailed instructions around this as well as other vital directions (specifically related to COVID-19) in the final confirmation email that you receive from me.

Please read these instructions carefully and in full before you travel to the shop for your appointment. If you have not done so, then you won’t be fully prepared regarding what to expect the day of. I can’t stress this enough - read the directions I give you please!

Q: WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE?

A: $175 per hour - however; depending on the circumstances I may assess pieces individually if I feel as though the hourly price ends up being a bit too high for the design.

This would also apply for large multisession pieces, I generally discount my hourly rate for sleeves. Upon request, I will happily give you a ballpark estimate of the cost once your proposal has been selected and we have been in communication via email.

Q: WHAT HAPPENS IF I RUN LATE FOR OUR APPOINTMENT?

A: If you are running late, please let me know as soon as you realize you won’t be arriving on time (do not wait until the start time of your appointment to notify me). I ask this because for anyone running over 15 minutes late, we will have to reschedule your appointment.

This is a courtesy that helps ensure my time is honored and that we start and end as planned. If a reschedule is required due to 15+ minutes of tardiness, I generally require a new deposit be put down for a backup date (some exclusions apply).

Q: WHAT IS YOUR RESCHEDULE / CANCELLATION POLICY?

A: I require 72 hours notice if you need to reschedule your appointment. Reschedule requests with less than 72 hours notice will in most cases result in forfeiture of your deposit - a new one will be required to reserve a backup date.

The only exceptions to the 72 hour policy would be reasons tied to COVID-19 exposure, severe inclement weather, or a family emergency. If you reschedule a second time, for any reason (even with 72 hours notice), a new deposit will be required to set up another backup date.

In the rare case that I run into a situation where I need to reschedule our appointment, I will give you as much notice as I possibly can. I will reach out to you via email, text, & direct message on IG should any scheduling modifications be needed. Your deposit would absolutely be honored & carried over to the backup date in those instances.

Q: CAN I SEE MY DESIGN BEFORE OUR APPOINTMENT?

A: Any requests for a copy of the design to be sent digitally before your appointment date will be respectfully declined. We as artists must protect our artistic integrity and intellectual property. Deciding to book with me means trusting my ability to design something you will love.

Sending a digital copy of the design leaves a huge liability gap in regards to our original designs being taken to another artist with a lower hourly rate. We take these steps to eliminate our work from potentially being stolen.

Q: CAN MY DESIGN BE MODIFIED OR REDRAWN ON THE DAY OF OUR APPOINTMENT?

A: It is crucial to be as clear as possible when you first submit your tattoo proposal request to avoid this scenario from occurring. Any and all pertinent preferences should be mentioned upfront on the Jotform as well as during any email correspondence / scheduled in-person consultations.

Any changes to your design you want made on the day of your appointment must be minor enough to take me less than 15 minutes to redraw. Anything more will result in your appointment being pushed back to a later date. This allows me the appropriate amount of time to modify the design to the best of my ability. A redraw fee of $50 may be assessed should this be the case.

Q: CAN I CHANGE MY DESIGN IDEA AFTER SCHEDULING THE ORIGINALLY REQUESTED DESIGN?

A: Once you have scheduled & put down a deposit for one design, it cannot be replaced with another one. When I choose the time / date for you, it is specifically done so with the design’s overall detail & complexity in mind. This in turn affects how long the tattoo will take and I don’t have space in my schedule for time variance.

The only exception to this is if you choose one of my flash designs & would like to swap it out with another flash design from my “FLASH” highlight reel. This must be done before the deposit is put down; otherwise, you’ll have to submit a new request once my books reopen to claim the other design.

Q: WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PREPARE FOR MY APPOINTMENT IN THE DAYS LEADING UP TO IT?

  1. Do not show up hungover! No alcoholic drinks within 24 hours of your tattoo

  2. Come in well rested & clear headed

  3. Make sure you eat an hour prior to your appointment, if you wait several hours between eating and your tattoo, the risk of passing out is much higher

  4. Bring plenty of water (at least 24 oz.) to drink during the appointment

  5. Bring a few sweet & salty snacks to eat during breaks as this will stabilize your blood sugar

  6. Moisturize daily in the week leading up to your appointment with unscented lotion

  7. Do not pre-shave the area, I will do that for you the day of  :)

Q: CAN I CHANGE THE PLACEMENT OF THE TATTOO?

A: If you’re considering switching the placement of the tattoo, please let me know before the actual day of your appointment. When I set up, I do so with the originally requested placement in mind and it can be difficult to change my setup on the fly if I don’t have any heads up.

AFTERCARE

YOUR NEW TATTOO IS A VULNERABLE OPEN WOUND. PLEASE TREAT IT LIKE THAT.

AFTERCARE PLAYS A HUGE PART IN THE FINAL APPEARANCE OF YOUR TATTOO.

PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW AND FOLLOW THEM CAREFULLY.

I) GENERAL CARE:

 1. The healing process will take 4-6 weeks. Please follow instructions throughout this period of time and be patient with your skin.

2. Avoid direct sunlight on the new tattoo. NO SUNSCREEN WHEN YOUR TATTOO IS STILL HEALING. (However, please always apply strong sunscreen on your tattoo AFTER it’s healed, if you are going to have sun exposure.)

3. Avoid soaking your healing tattoo in water - no bathing, no swimming, no hot tubs, no sauna, etc.

4. If you have a pet, keep them away from your tattoo. Especially avoid contact with their fur and saliva.

5. ALWAYS HANDLE YOUR NEW TATTOO WITH CLEAN HANDS.

6. Ointment options: Cetaphil, Aquaphor, Vitamin A & D lotion. All non-scented. No vaseline. No Neosporin. No aloe vera. No oil based lotion.

7. If you suspect your tattoo is getting infected, ASK A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY.

II) SECOND SKIN:

1. It is waterproof. Feel free to take showers with it while it’s on.

2. Please leave it on for no less than 3 days but no more than 7 days.

3. You might see discharges appearing and your tattoo might look “smudged“ under second skin. It is totally normal. However, please peel off the second skin and follow instructions in section III if the discharge starts to leak.

4. MINIMIZE SWEATING when you have the second skin on. Your sweat won’t be able to escape the second skin and it can cause infection.

5. After 3-7 days, please slowly peel off the second skin IN THE SHOWER. Wash your tattoo with mild/unscented soap immediately. Use your hands to rub off all the extra ink, blood, and plasma. Do not rub it with a towel - it will hurt! Tap dry very gently with a CLEAN towel after the shower. Apply a THIN layer of ointment on the tattoo - do not over apply!  (Please wash and take care of your tattoo in this way throughout the healing process.)

6. Your tattoo might get “printed“ onto second skin when you peel it off. It is normal too. Your tattoo is still there:)

7. There’s small chance you might experience allergic reaction to second skin. If you experience redness and itchiness around the edge of the second skin please just peel it off and wash your tattoo.

III) FIRST FEW DAYS AFTER SECOND SKIN:

1.  Your tattoo is vulnerable when you just peel off the second skin. It is a large open wound with very thin to zero protective layer on.

2. Wash your tattoo at least once a day (follow instructions above) and apply ointment 2x a day for the first 3-4 days. Again, a thin layer will be sufficient.

3. Minimize your exercise regimen.

4. ALWAYS KEEP YOUR TATTOO CLEAN - wash hands before handling it, wear clean clothes, use clean bedding, keep pets away from it.

IV) ONE WEEK AFTER SECOND SKIN:

1. Your tattoo might appear flaky. DON’T PICK AT THEM. You might pick the ink out of your skin and the tattoo will heal poorly.

2. Some flakes might appear to be black. It looks weird but it is totally normal.

3. Your tattoo might feel itchy as the flakes keep forming. DON’T SCRATCH IT. Same thing, you might damage your tattoo by doing so. Gently pat or rub on it (with clean hands!)

4. Once again, keep your tattoo clean!

YOUR TATTOO IS HEALED WHEN IT STOPS FLAKING AND BECOMES FLAT

(YOU CAN’T TELL IT APART WITH YOUR UN-TATTOOED SKIN WHILE TOUCHING IT WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED)
